Hi, my name is Kaleb J. Hill and I’m currently a pre-med student at Xavier University of Louisiana majoring in Public Health and Psychology. I travel frequently between New Orleans and Birmingham, AL. I’m an avid health advocate, an aspiring physician, and a youth track coach for a local after-school team. I have a passion for helping others achieve optimal health. I’m the founder and CEO of Fitness Fleet, Inc., a philanthropic health and wellness company dedicated to helping others understand the value of good health and healthy diet choices. I’m also in the process of developing a community-based wellness program called Hood Health Rx to help spread the message about good health to underserved communities in Birmingham.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, my personal health journey began when I was very young. My paternal grandmother was diagnosed with gestational diabetes while she was still carrying my father. Eventually she progressed to Type I.5 Diabetes. She dealt with diabetes for as long as I can remember. I helped care for her when I was just a kid, and I became very knowledgeable about the various aspects of her healthcare, such as meal-planning, preparing for doctor visits, general monitoring, and taking care of her insulin supply. I remember she had so many different doctors caring for her (healthcare for diabetes has come a long way since then), and I also remember how close she was with all her doctors, and how kind and caring they were to her. When she finally lost her battle in 2007, I was touched to see her endocrinologist at her funeral. I think this is what inspired me to begin a career in healthcare. I was also a very active child, and I was a student-athlete.
I didn’t apply the knowledge I gained from caring for my grandmother in my personal life until a bit later in life. As 2010 arrived, I had recently been laid-off from my job, weighing in around 360 pounds, with a horrible diet and little to no exercise. This was the tipping point for me – I knew I had to take charge of my health. To keep busy I signed up for volunteer work at my local police station. On my first day, I got lost and found myself at the city’s fitness center. Something compelled me to volunteer to start cleaning the center twice a day in exchange for help in losing weight, and I’ve never looked back. Around this time I began looking into supplements, and after trying a few different brands I found NOW Foods’ products. I was impressed with the price and quality of the products. As of August 2012 I’ve lost over 100 pounds. In addition to regular exercise, fresh produce and NOW supplements have become an essential part of my life.
These days I’m actively involved with Fitness Fleet and Hood Health Rx, and I’m gearing up to begin my journey to become a physician. Through these organizations and my community involvement, I’m encouraging families to get back to health basics such as daily walks, biking, eating fresh produce, taking supplements, and more. NOW has played such an important role in my health journey and I want to give back by telling others about the positive impact NOW products and a healthy lifestyle have had in my life. NOW products I currently take include L-Carnitine, Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium, and Omega-3 Fish Oil. When I detox I also use NOW Dandelion Root and Green Tea Extract.
